Is the SC Education Super Promising the World…Again?

In Education on August 13, 2011 at 7:36 pm

I’d really like to like Mick Zais, the current state superintendent of education in SC. Really, I would. He wrote an editorial in today’s Scum News (Sun News) about personalized education for students and how we need to change the education system. The article sounded good. Great points. But the follow through? I’m just not sure how that’s going to work out. Changing a broken system from the inside without vitally changing the system into something new seldom works. Nothing more than a band-aid on an arterial bleed.

Here’s the article, so decide for yourself if you like it or not- Students Deserve Personalized Education

I heard Michelle Rhee, former DC schools goddess, speak yesterday at the Global Leadership Summit and it sounds like she had the right idea until the bureaucrats went out for blood. She had the choice of changing the system by closing 23 schools right now or by following the district policy of an infinitessimaly slow process of closing down the worst schools.

So what’s it gonna be Zais? Rhetoric that sounds good in the paper or real change?
